ADDISON ALUMNI BANQUET May 8, 2010 at Lakeshore @ 6:00 p.m. Honoring class of 1960 and 1985. Plates will be $15 each.

The Addison Alumni established a Scholarship fund in 2007. Each May at the Alumni Banquet two scholarships will be presented to two graduating seniors. These students are selected by the Alumni Scholarship Committee. We encourage all to please donate to this important scholarship. Checks may be made to The AHSAS and sent or given to Addison High School. All donations are tax deductable.

The Addison High School Class of 1964 will have their 45th year Class Reunion at Smith's Restaurant on Saturday June 6, 2009 at 7:00P.M.

The Addison Alumni will hold its annual banquet Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at Lakeshore Inn. The cost is $15.00 per person. This includes a buffet dinner with drink and dessert. We will be honoring the class of 1959. Music and entertainment will be provided. For information please call Bonnie Sachs at 205-272-0820 or Trann Lasiter at 256-347-9467. We will be presenting our annual Alumni Scholarship funds to deserving students. Last year we presented $2500 each to two students. Please come out and support this wonderful event.


 

AL High School Football

History of Addison High School

1927
James Wakefield became principal; a gymnasium was built with two wings.

1928
Addison High School began football.

1929
Mr. Tanner was the principal of the first graduating class; the football team had its first full season of regularly scheduled games.

1930
First undefeated football season.

1932
W.E. Maulden became principal.

1934
Wade Hester became principal.

1935
Addison High School building erected.

1937
First football game played in Addison; R.E. Moody became principal in February; Burton Burdick became principal in July.

1943
First band at Addison, used instruments and homemade uniforms.

1945
L.L. Porch became principal.

1947
Old gym was built; James Wakefield became principal again; the town of Addison was incorporated.

1949
Murphy Batchelor became principal.

1950
Leonard York became principal.

1952
Jimmie C. Lott became principal.

1954
First yearbook, Weldon Cole named it Memorabilia.

1955
Everett Johnson and Harold Wayne Naylor were thawing out pipes when the Ag building caught on fire and burnt to the ground.

1956
Coach A. G. Hicks began coaching for the Bulldogs.

1961
Elementary building was erected.

1962
Addison swimming pool was built.

1965
Lunchroom was built.

1968
AHS band was formed after several years of not having one.

1970
Football team won its first state championship.

1971
D.A. Sharpton became principal; football team finished second in state.

1972
The basketball team finished fourth in state.

1974
February, the first Traders and Farmers Bank was built in Addison; A.G. Hicks became principal.

1975
The girls sports program began; Allen Stephenson became head coach and assistant principal.

1976
Football team won the state championship.

1978
New gymnasium was built.

1983
Bo Bolzle became principal in June; March 29, the stadium was named after Coach A.G. Hicks.

1985
Sunday, January 13th, the main church building of Addison First Baptist Church burned to the ground.

1988
Mini gym was built next to the playground.

1991
The lunchroom caught on fire, sack lunches were served from the home economics building and students had to eat in class.

1992
The new high school building was erected.

1993
The old high school building was torn down.

1994
An earthquake hit Addison.

1996
The softball team won the state championship; the volleyball team got runner-up in state.

1998
The lunchroom was enlarged; Addison added a turn signal to the red light.

2000
Allen Stephenson was named principal of Addison Elementary School after the school was split off from the high school.

2002
In December, Ellen Oliver was named principal of Addison Elementary School.
