The Accelerated Reader (AR) is an electronic reading incentive program that keeps each student challenged. It helps focus attention on careful reading of books, which improves students’ critical-thinking skills and builds an intrinsic love of reading. Students are challenged without being frustrated. Students read AR books and take a computerized test. After the test has been scored, points are awarded based upon the number of correct answers given and the point value of the book.
