Highlights from the 
Winston County Board Of Education Meeting
August 22, 2005

The Board accepted payrolls and expenditures, Bank Reconciliations, and Financial Statements for July 2005.

Approval was given to revise policy GALBGA - FI - Temporary School Activity Leave Request Form. The following policies are being considered for revision: GALBG-F1-Temporary Professional Leave Request Form, and ECCL - Equipment Inventories

Commendations were made for the following students or personnel:

Melanie Wakefield, WCHS Student, attended the University of Alabama's Multicultural Journalism Workshop (MJW) and was awarded the Most Valuable Camper Award. The MJW is a workshop that teachers students about all branches of media.

Transportation Department: James Pruitt, Melvin Henderson, Kenneth Alexander, Frank Jones, Al Neuheisel, Judy Garcia, and all Bus Drivers for an outstanding annual school bus inspection that was performed by the Alabama State Department of Education School Student Transportation Department.

 

The Board authorized the Superintendent to advertise for Coal Bids. State Farm Insurance was awarded the bid to provide Insurance for buses and other school vehicles. Meek School Agribusiness Department was authorized to accept bids to sell surplus equipment.

 

Approved personnel recommendations for employment, transfers, or resignations as follows:

Personnel to Employ or Transfer:

Britney Wilkins, teacher at Addison Elementary, effective August 4, 2005.

Vickie Lauderdale, transfer from part-time teacher at Winston County Technical Center to part-time teacher at Double Springs Middle School.

Devin Guthrie, transfer from Teacher/Guidance Counselor at Meek Elementary to Teacher at Meek High School.

Brad Alsup, part-time teacher at Lynn High School and part-time teacher at Winston County Technical Center effective August 23, 2005. Lynn School Coaching Assignments - JV Football, Boys Jr High Basketball, Varsity Baseball.

Mike Elliott (previously employed at Lynn Elem) Lynn School Coaching Assignments - Assistant Football Coach, Varsity Boys Basketball, Jr. High Baseball.

Jeff Beasley, part-time Guidance Counselor and part-time Physical Education Teacher at Meek Elementary effective August 9, 2005. Meek Coaching Assignments - Jr. High Football Assistant, Girls Jr. High Basketball Assistant.

Emily Gilbreath, Special Education Teacher at Meek High School, effective August 9, 2005.

Barbara Cutcher, transfer from Special Education Teacher at Winston County Technical Center and Winston County High School to Special Education Teacher at Addison High School.

Rebecca McCombs, Special Education Teacher at Winston County Technical Center and Winston County High School effective August 11, 2005.

Teresa White, Teacher Aide at Double Springs Elementary School effective August 9, 2005.

 

Resignations:

Pam Waid, resignation as teacher aide at Double Springs Middle School.

Steve Miller, resignation as teacher at Addison High School

 

Other business included approving payment for ARMS Liability/Errors and Omissions Coverage, revision of amount paid for McAleer Solutions Software License Agreement, and payment for annual STI District and School Office License

 

The next meeting was set for September 29, 2005 at 7:00 p.m.
