The following are highlights from the Winston County Board of Education meeting on December 19, 2005: The Board accepted payrolls and expenditures, Bank Reconciliations, and Financial Statements for November 2005, and approved 1st amendment of 2006 school budget. The
following students and personnel were commended: § Addison Football Team and Coaches for winning the State 1A Football Championship. § Caleb Parker, Addison Student, for being named the MVP of the State Championship Game and for winning the Mizeman Trophy Award. § Randy White, Addison Teacher/Coach, for being selected as a Coach for the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Football Game and for being named the 1A State Football Coach of the Year. § Lana Pigg, Addison Student, for signing Athletic Scholarship to play volleyball for Wallace State. § Chase Parker, Caleb Parker, Kyle Carden and Michael Roberts for being named to the 1A All-State 1st Team Football Team. § Wes Willingham, Addison Student, named as Honorable Mention to the State Football Team. § Dustin Cagle, Lynn Student, for being a top three finalist for the Mizeman Trophy Award. § Phalicia Moore and Chase Cliatt, Meek Students, for winning $1,000 scholarships in the Parisian Operation Career essay contest sponsored by Parisian, Portico Magazine, and The Birmingham News. § Meek High School for being the only Winston County School which has earned a place on the State’s Academic “Honor Roll”. This achievement has been accomplished by earning Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) during the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 school years. Personnel Items: § Accepted resignation of Belinda Bryson, Special Education Aide at Double Springs Elementary. § Approved Maternity Leave for Sarah Hyche, teacher at Double Springs Middle School for the second semester of the 2005-2006 school year. § Employed Susan Huddleston as teacher at Double Springs Elementary, for the second semester of the 2005-2006 school year. § Employed April Linley as teacher at Lynn Elementary, for the second semester of the 2005-2006 school year. § Employed Holly Brimer as Special Education Aide at Double Springs Elementary for the second semester of the 2005-2006 school year § Granted professional leave to Gordon D. Ganey, teacher at Meek High School, January 9-13, 2006, to attend AMSTI Training of Trainers Workshop. The Board approved adding and purchasing the SAT Test for 2nd grade students and approved Textbook Committee Members for each school. The next scheduled meeting was set for Thursday, January 26, 2006 at 7:00 p.m.
