The
following are highlights from the Winston County Board of
Education meeting on January 26, 2006 The
Board accepted payrolls and expenditures, Bank
Reconciliations, and Financial Statements for December
2005. The
following students and personnel were commended: § Farm City State Poster Contest Winners from Lynn Elementary: Autumn Baughn, K-3 winner, Logann Smith, K-3 runner-up; Erica Harrell, 4-6 winner, Annalisa Cagle, 4-6 runner-up. § Brooklyn Beck, 4th grade student at Lynn Elementary, was one of 13 winners in the Alabama Gerontological Society Essay Contest. § Ms. Joan Elliott was selected as Teacher of the Year at Lynn Elementary School. § Ashley Lawson, Lynn High School § Senior, awarded Freshman Academic Scholarship to Auburn. § Lance Mailloux, Meek High School Student, one of ten students statewide selected for the UAB Nursing Scholar’s Program. § Meek Jr. High Girls Basketball Team and Coach David Rice, Winston County Jr. High Basketball Champs. § Meek Jr. High Boys Basketball Team and Coach Robbie Hiller, Winston County Jr. High Basketball Champs. § Meek Elementary received a $1200 grant, subsidized by the Alabama State Council on the Arts. § Meek Elementary School Spelling Bee Contest Winners: Alex Gibson, winner; Anna Waldrep, runner-up. Both are 5th grade students. § Meek High School Spelling Bee Contest Winners: Michael Wadsworth, winner; Katie Bryant, runner up Personnel
Items: § Accepted resignation of Holly Brimer as Special Education Aide at Double Springs Elementary. § Approved Clay Carter as a volunteer basketball coach for Addison High School. Authorized
overnight trips as follows: § Any Winston County School to attend the State High School Beta Convention in Birmingham, February 2-3, 2006. § Double Springs Middle School to attend the State Jr. High Beta Convention in Huntsville, March 23-24, 2006. § Mrs. Beth Gilbreath, Gifted Education Teacher, and her 8th grade students to go to Dauphin Island Sea Lab § Mrs. Lauren Archer, Meek School Counselor, and Meek Students to attend SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Conference in Birmingham, Alabama, Approved considering revision of the following policies: § GBI Supplement #2 – Evaluation of Certified Personnel – Principal Component § TBA – Qualifications for Bus Drivers § JGH – Child Nutrition Program Authorized
Transportation Supervisor to advertise for bids for New
School Buses. Approved designating Traders & Farmers Bank as the depository for Winston County School Funds through December 2008. The next scheduled meeting was set for Thursday, February 23, 2006 at 7:00 p.m.
