Highlights from the 
Winston County Board Of Education Meeting
November 28, 2005

The following are highlights from the Winston County Board of Education meeting on November 28, 2005:

The Board accepted payrolls and expenditures, Bank Reconciliations, and Financial Statements for October 2005.

Dr. Neil Hyche was contracted to conduct the Superintendent’s PEPE Evaluation.

The following students and personnel were commended:

  •  Addison Girls Varsity Volleyball Team for being the State 1A Champions

  •  Addison Football Team for making it to the State Finals

  •  Caleb Parker, Senior at Addison High School, for being selected as Wendy’s High School Heisman State Winner for Alabama.

  • Dustin Cagle, Junior at Lynn High School, broke State Record for most passing yards in a single football game (548 yds).  He placed second in the national player of the week.

  •  Ashley Lawson, Senior at Lynn High School, scored 32 on the ACT

  • Cory Baughn, Senior at Lynn High School, scored 31 on the ACT Cory has been awarded a University Scholars Award Scholarship to the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  .

  •  Chelain McCarty, Senior at Addison High School signed a four-year scholarship to play volleyball for Auburn University.

  • Farm City State Poster Contest winners from Lynn Elementary
    K-3 Division  – Autumn Baughn – winner and Logann Smith  – 1st place
    4-6 Division –   Erica Harrell – winner, and Annalisa Cagle, – 1st place

 

Approved repairing or replacing items recently damaged by lightening at Addison School and Double Springs Elementary School.  These items are covered by State of Alabama Risk Management Building and Content Insurance.

Personnel Items:

  • Accepted retirement of  Gwen Nelson, teacher at Lynn School, at the end of the first semester of the 2005-2006 school year.

  • Accepted resignation of Brooke Brannon, teacher at Double Springs Elementary at the end of the first semester of the 2005–2006 school year.  

  • Accepted resignation of Addison High School cheerleading sponsor, Karen Woodard and approved employment of D’Sheil Powell Parker as her replacement.

  • Approved employment of Tia Chambers as nurse/aide at Double Springs Elementary.  

  

The next scheduled meeting was set for Monday, December 19, 2005, at 1:00 p.m.
