The following are highlights from the Winston County Board of Education meeting on October 28, 2005:

The Board accepted payrolls and expenditures, Bank Reconciliations, and Financial Statements for September 2005.

The following students and personnel were commended:

  • Ashley Lawson, Lynn High Student, received Presidential Scholarship to the University of Alabama based on test score and high school GPA.

  • Denise Sibley, teacher at Addison, chosen by State Department of Education to serve on committee for Graduation Exam.

  • Georganna Comeens, chosen by International Dyslexia Association, to be a presenter at the International Dyslexia Conference in Denver, Colorado.

  • Sandy Tingle, Custodian of Funds, had first budget passed in our district at the State Department of Education.

  • Addison Volleyball Team, for being Regional Champion and advancing to the Elite Eight State Tournament in Class 1A.

  •  Winston County High Volleyball Team for being Regional Champion and advancing to the Elite Eight State Tournament in Class 3A.

 

School Improvement Plan was approved for Addison High School and Double Springs Elementary School.  The Board also approved High Hopes Advisory Board Members and Drug Managements Team Members for the 2005-2006 school year.  .   

 

Payment for Building Insurance was approved through Alabama Division of Risk Management and Coal Bid was accepted from Big Mitch Prep Company, Inc.

 

Approval was given for Overnight trips or Professional Leave as follows:

  • Overnight trip for Addison and WCHS Volleyball Teams to go to State Tournament, October 26-29.

  • Overnight trip for Fifth Grade Class at Double Springs Middle School to attend Camp Cosby in Talladega, November 16-18, 2005.

  • Professional Leave for Amy Hiller, Meek School, to attend PEPE Training, October 17-21.

 

Personnel Items:

  • Accepted resignation of Janet Baker as Double Springs Elementary School Nurse/Aide effective November 11, 2005

  • Employed Anita Robinson as Business/Marketing Instructor at the Winston County Technical Center effective November 1, 2005.

  • Tabled motion to employ County–Wide School Improvement Teacher through the remainder of the 2005-2006 school year.

 

The next scheduled meeting was set for Monday, November 28, at 7:30 p.m..
