Scholars Bowl Team
We are VERY proud of our Scholars Bowl team and all of their
hard work! We had two students who made the All County team, Arianna Moody and
Logan Myrick. Congratulations to these students.
Science Bowl Team
Double Springs Middle School participated in the 2008 Middle School Science Bowl
at Mobile on March 8. The regional competition was held at the Alabama School of
Math and Science and Dr. Garvin Wattahewa was the coordinator. The event was
sponsored by the United States Department of Energy.
Two teams represented DSMS. The team members for Team I were:
Hunter Blankenship (captain), Spencer Christian, Kristalyn Garrison and Graci
Pruitt.
Team II members included Leslie Harrison (captain), Logan Myrick, Tyler
Williams, and Andrew Cagle
The Science Bowl coaches were: Gina Courington and Sandra Gaddy. In preparation
for the competition, technology was constantly in use by the students and
teachers. They registered online, answered vigorous practice questions posted
online, and used curriculum software to train for the competition. They were
challenged to compete in a fast-paced verbal forum to answer questions in all
branches of science and math. The winning school was St. Ignatius School in
Mobile, They will compete in Denver, Colorado in June.

winner of the State will be a billboard for the state of Alabama during parent
involvement month. Our school winners were

Scholars Bowl Congratulations to
our new Scholars Bowl team at DSMS! Logan M, Logan O, Graci P, Bethany T,
Zachary T, Clay W, Andrew G, Rachel G, Arianna M, Madison W.
Spelling Bee We now have a spelling
bee champion!! Congrats to Nathan and Courtney! On Thursday, January 10th around
fifty students competed for the title of Double Springs Middle School Spelling
Bee Champion! Nathan was announced spelling bee champion and Courtney was runner
up. Both of these students will now compete at the County spelling bee.
Congratulations again to these wonderful students at DSMS!
Honor Roll
is now posted for the first nine-week grading period.
Jr. Beta
is collecting Tyson ProjectA+ labels. These are found on most frozen Tyson food
products. Please tell friends and family. We can get 24 cents per label. Please
send them to Dianna Cole at Double Springs Middle School.
SGA elections have taken place at DSMS. Students
gave their speeches Thursday, August 30th.
