Spotlight 2010-2011

Congratulations to Kathy Mullican for being selected as Teacher of the Year for the 2010-2011 school year! This very high honor is indicative of one who has achieved significant success in the classroom as well as one who personifies the highest standards of service, leadership and character. Kathy Mullican is in every respect a model teacher and one in whom we have great pride.
Mrs. Mullican teaches Sixth Grade Math and Reading. In serving our school and community, she is a conscientious, dedicated teacher that spends many hours in preparation of lessons. The students benefit every day from this kind of planning. Her commitment to our parent involvement committee and Making Middle Grades Work leadership team helped to make our school a great one.
Kathy Mullican is married to Tim Mullican, the owner of Winston Auto Parts. They reside in Double Springs. They are the proud parents of Kara, a Reading Specialist at Maury County School System in Columbia Tennessee. Congratulations Kathy Mullican - Double Springs Middle School Teacher of the Year!

Congratulations to Meredith Daniel! She won the long jump Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the Sectional Track Meet in Winfield. She jumped 16' 2" and three quarters. She also made it to state in the high jump and relay. We are so proud of you.
Meredith is an 7th Grade student at DSMS.

 Mrs. Beth Wilson Gilbreath's Double Springs Middle School Gifted Class won 1st place at the McWane Center Celebrate Science Exhibit competition! They completed against 17 other schools.

Meredith Daniel won the Alabama State Judge's Cup Invitational 12/13/09 in her age division in Tuscaloosa, AL. She had an All-Around score of 37.375. She also won the Uneven Bars with a score of 9.275, and the Beam with a score of 9.300. She is one of six girls from across the State out of 80 gymnasts that made the Alabama State Team, and will go to National Judge's Cup on January 8th and 9th in Cincinnati, Ohio to compete in the National Championships. Meredith is a Sixth-Grade, A-Honor Roll student at DSMS and also a member of the Junior Beta Club. Her parents are: Bobby Shane and Debbie Daniel. Meredith has competed in gymnastic competitions in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida. She will compete in Louisiana and Ohio in 2010. We are very proud of this talented DSMS student!

Jalen, Logan, and Savannah of DSMS attended a five-day residential camp at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center (USSRC) in Huntsville, AL. The objective of Be Ready Camp is to teach the importance of being prepared for any type of disaster or emergency.
