Weather Stories from Ms. Courington's Class
First Period
The Snow Day
By: Ashley B.
One morning as I awoke I felt chilled. I peered out my window and to my wondrous
eyes I saw the one thing I had been waiting my whole life for…..snow! I grabbed
my silky coat and my fuzzy snow boots and ran outside. I loved the way the snow
fell on my nose and melted on my tongue. It was a winter wonderland. I looked
both ways and to my surprise my terrier, Molly, was no where in sight. I
searched everywhere and finally found her in the barn. I picked her up and sat
her in the snow. She loved it. Molly and I had the best snow day ever.
The Freak Storm
By: Heather C.
It all happened on an unusually sunny day. I went to church, not knowing what
was coming after church. Everyone, instead of going to their cars, went
downstairs. When I asked what was up, my Mom told me to look out the window. I
ran down the hall to the window in the door. Rain clouds had suddenly replaced
the sun. Then the most weird thing happened, it wasn’t raining when I looked
out, then suddenly rain was pouring down in sheets. When it let up, we went
upstairs and walked out onto the porch. A huge black cloud was coming. A
tornado. Some people jumped in their cars, hoping to get away from it, but there
was no escape from what happened. My organ player, Sandy, was in her car and it
was sucked up into the spinning vortex. Suddenly, her car was thrown into the
graveyard. Then the tornado left. It just went away like nothing ever happened.
Gladly, Sandy lives to tell the tale of that day.
The Snow Fight
By: Colby T.
One time, in Missouri, it snowed and we went outside. My grandpa got red garbage
can lids. They were brand new and we slid on them to the pond. My grandpa got
his four-wheeler and pulled us. Then, while we were doing that, we had a
snowball fight. Then we went in for soup and hot chocolate. We warmed up and
went back out.
A Tornado to Remember
By: Samantha S.
It was two years ago. We were going to my aunt’s house during a tornado. Mom and
I were running down a hill and a tornado had just torn through a house right
behind us. We had to jump in a ditch and crawl under a bridge to wait out the
storm.
Second Period
Tornado Time
By: Madison W.
Have you ever seen a tornado? Well, I have. A couple of months ago it was just a
normal day, with a slight rain shower. I was at my MawMaw’s house, while my
family went somewhere. I knew the wind was picking up, but I had no idea what
was going to happen next! All of a sudden, family members from all around the
community came to the door. Aunts, uncles, cousins, and relatives of all kinds
started to yell, “Get in the basement. A tornado is crossing onto County Road
18!”. We rushed into the basement to wait. It became dead quiet outside. The
bravest of the family, Zeb, my Dad, Byron, Shannon, and of course, Seth and
Connor, ran to the door. They looked up and saw a tornado above the house. I was
so scared. It never did touchdown though. Once we were sure that the tornado had
passed, we went outside. To our amazement, the tornado was already in a pasture
about a half mile away. That was the first time I actually got to see a real
tornado.
The Snow Day
By: Rhett M.
One time, last year, it started snowing. It was so cool because I had never seen
snow at our house before. When I got home, I came inside and put a jacket on. I
went outside and started making snowballs to throw at my sister and her husband.
They drove up and as soon as they stepped out, I started pelting them with
snowballs. It was fun, but we stopped and decided to make a snowman.
Fun in the Snow
By: Carolyne K.
A few years ago, my family went to Stone Mountain. We went in our old motor
home. One day we were driving down the highway, thinking the weather was
supposed to be very warm, when suddenly snow, and a little bit of hail, started
pouring. We went to an R.V. park and stayed the night. We woke up, the next
morning, and the ground was covered in snow. My brother, Alex, my sister, Tess,
and I went out and started playing in the snow. We met lots of other kids and we
started to build snowmen. We had lots of fun!
The Scary Trip
By: Alec S.
One year we went to Florida to see my aunt. One day, while we were there, my Mom
woke me up at 3:30 in the morning and said, “It’s time to go!”. She was getting
mad at me because I wouldn’t shut-up because I didn’t know what was going on.
When I went outside, the tops of the trees were going in circles. She put me in
the R.V. with my aunt and said, “It’s Ike”. I said, “A hurricane?”. She said,
“Yes!”. So we went to Walt Disney. When we came back, my aunt’s house was torn
down by the hurricane. They told me it was a Level 4 hurricane. That’s the
scariest weather I’ve ever been in.
Third Period
The Beach
By: Cody H.
About two or three years ago, when I was eight or nine years old, I was at the
beach. A hurricane hit. Not a real big one, but a Level 1, I think. The good
thing about it was that it only lasted about one and a half to two hours, but
the bad thing was that we had to wait two days to get in the water. We were
there seven days, so that was good.
Tornado Warning
By: Ashley M.
One day, we were sitting at home and my dad turned on the Weather Channel. It
said a tornado was heading our way. My best friend, Branna, and my sister, got a
flashlight and went to our basement and sat there. My mom was in her room,
watching out her big window, and the tornado was going through my backyard. It
only hit two trees and knocked one brick off our house.
My Dad’s Worse Day
By: Levi L.
One day, it was raining, thundering, and lightning. While it was doing this, we
were sitting on my porch. While we were sitting there, we heard something break.
After we heard this, we looked and my dad’s windshield, in his truck, had gotten
smashed in by a huge limb. When my dad saw this, he hurried and moved his truck
before another limb could fall and hit it.
The Sound
By: Rachel R.
When I was twelve, a tornado came through. We were all asleep, but I heard a
loud pitched sound and I ran to my parent’s room. By the time I got there, they
were awake. I was screaming and my brother came running in there. My mom told us
to get into the bathroom closet and stay there. We went toward the bathroom and
a loud tearing sound came to us. There was water pouring, by the gallons, into
our kitchen, bathroom, and living room. The house was still standing, but our
whole roof was standing in two big oak trees in our front yard. It was scary,
but thanks to the Lord, we all lived.
Fifth Period
A Day at the Beach
By: Alizabeth G.
One Saturday, I was outside at the beach at Panama City. We had gone outside to
swim in the ocean. We had watched the weather, before leaving, and they said
that it was going to be sunny all week, but it wasn’t. Just as we walked out our
hotel door, it started pouring rain. We went to the indoor pool and had fun. It
started thundering and the palm trees were sticking to the big window of the
indoor pool. The wind was blowing really hard. Everybody was screaming and
scared. We were just sitting there knowing that we were going to be safe because
God was watching over us.
A Long Day
By: Litisha P.
Last year, I had a terrible fright. My parents and I had just got to my
grandparent’s house. We had come from the store with a present for my sister. We
went downstairs to wrap it and heard the tornado siren. We thought it was a
test, but then my sister came running downstairs crying. I asked her what was
wrong and she was shaking badly. My dad asked her and she said we were under a
tornado watch. We went downstairs and the house flooded.
The Day it Snowed
By: Brandon W.
One day, at my old house it snowed. It was the first time I had ever seen snow.
I was about three years old and it came up to my waist. I went outside to play
in the snow and it was so cold that I put a bunch of clothes on. We built a
snowman. It was pretty big. Then we had a snowball fight and then slid down a
hill on a boogie board.
