Mrs. Sonya Smith would like to thank her wonderful family: mom- Eunice, her sister Tina, nephews Heath and Hayden, Nieces Jolie and Sydney, my son-in-law Shandy and my wonderful daughter Brittney, and especially my husband Carrol for all their hard work in the library this summer. Brittney has donated much time and effort, and gone well beyond the call of duty for any daughter. I love you all so much!!

I invite all parents to view the websites that are commonly used to help students succeed.

  • Starfall for students having trouble with sounds or reading it is excellent!
  • Gamequarium the site that swims with learning fun.
  • PBS.org is also fun, educational, and safe. This site also has to separate divisions for k-2 and 3-any age that likes cartoons.
  • NickJr is a good site for those not yet in school and kindergarten.
  • FunSchool for the older students--you can choose the grade level.
  • Dictionary.com look up words online.
  • Good Typing free online typing practice.
  • Crayola Kids coloring pages, craft ideas and more.
  • Highlights puzzles and games.
  • Ask Jeeves find answers for kids.
  • Alabama Virtual Library primarily a group of online databases that have magazine, journal, and newspaper articles for research.
  • Prongo is good for home use, but you will have some adds that pop up according to what kind of firewall that you have--I have seen nothing offensive while working with this site at home.

I would love to help you become actively involved in your child's technology education. If you would like to visit please call to set up a time.

If you are interested in learning basic computer skills so that you can keep tabs on your children, or you just want to learn to use email, I will be glad to help you with these--all you have to do is contact me. I want to see the community as well as our children flourish.

Sonya Smith, Librarian

We had the pleasure of hosting author, songwriter, comedian Eddie Bowman, better known as Chester Drawers. K-6 enjoyed his story telling songs and jokes. He was wonderful, and very patient with each child that wanted an autograph.
Thank you Mr. Bowman!
