Tree of Cultures

Christmas Around the World

We spent 10 days on our "Christmas around the World and Winter Holidays"
unit. The first thing we did was make "passports" so that we could travel
to the different continents and countries: Canada, Spain, France, Germany,
Finland, China, Australia, Africa, and Brazil.

Miss Fulghum taught us about the 7 continents and 4 oceans. We learned
that we live in North America. We also learned about the equator. For
each country we visited, Miss Fulghum gave us a sticker to put in our
passports.

She also put up a tree and said that it was not going to be called a
Christmas tree. This tree was called a "Tree of Cultures." We decorated
it with things we made to represent the countries we visited.

We used a map of the world to keep track of where we were going. Miss
Fulghum used neon green colored stars to mark each place. If you look
closely at the picture of the map, you can see the stars. You should be
able to see nine of them.

Christmas Around the World: PowerPoint Show

The first time we saw the PowerPoint, we reviewed information from the entire unit.
In this picture we are watching the PowerPoint for the second time as
we listen to a song called "We are One World."

This is a  map of the world, shown on the overhead projector,
to review the continents, oceans, equator, and directions.
We had our own maps to label, and we completed this map together.
