Reminders About Tardies and Absences

Parents/Guardians, please keep these guidelines handy. It is easy to forget or become confused about our tardy and absentee policies. I have noted that students who are rarely tardy or absent and seventh graders have trouble remembering what to do for different instances.

Just remember these simple points.

1. If a student misses any portion of a class (this includes a small portion due to lateness), an excuse must be turned in to the office. This allows the student to receive a slip showing his/her teachers the absence is excused and the teachers may allow the student to make-up missed work.

2. If a student does not bring an excuse within 2 school days of the absence or tardy, a slip showing teachers the portion of their class that was missed is unexcused will be given to the student and the teacher may not allow the student to make-up the missed work which results in grades of zero for each assignment missed.

3. Doctor's excuses are best. However, the school will accept up to ten personal notes of explanation as to the missed portion of school.

The Meek School Handbook serves to give much greater detail on our policies. Every student received a handbook to keep at home.

If you have questions concerning tardiness and absenteeism, please call the school at 384-5825.

Student Responsibility Intervention Program

Meek High School has begun a Student Responsibility Intervention Program. This program serves students who have earned scores of 69 or below on their most recent report card or progress report.

The assistant principal meets with each student to determine what may have occurred to result in these scores. Together, the student and assistant principal set goals to raise these scores and decide on activities the student will engage in to meet his/her goals.

The assistant principal monitors the student throughout the grading period to insure the student is adhering to the plan agreed upon and adjusts the plan as necessary.

This program will allow students, in addition to help they already receive from family and teachers, another avenue to seek help before grades become dangerously low.
