Hi, my name is Candy Jenkins. This is my 13th year to work at the Double Springs Elementary School. My first four years were as a special education aide. The next four were as computer lab facilitator. During the same time I also taught 4th grade for about five months. This is my fifth year teaching 2nd grade and I love it! :-)
I am originally from Walker County although I have family roots here in Winston County. I graduated from Curry High School, got my Associates degree at Bevill State in Jasper, then graduated from Athens University with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education. I have had many jobs through the years, but there is nothing I would rather do than work with children. I believe I am blessed to be exactly where I belong.
I am married to Stephen Jenkins of Double Springs. I have three children: Kristopher Kilgore, Jennifer Kilgore, and Adam Kilgore. I also have four grandchildren: Logan Waldrop, Calli Claborn, Noah Allen, and Brayden Kilgore. Family is my number one priority.
My main interests besides my family are reading, playing music and singing, and enjoying the great outdoors. We are so blessed to live in such a beautiful area with so many opportunities to enjoy nature.
I want to end with a quote that helped inspire me to become a teacher.
"A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove... but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child."
Forest E. Witcraft
I hope that I can make a positive difference in this world by somehow being important in the life of a child.
