Child Nutrition Program: The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is a federally assisted meal program which operates in public and non-profit private schools and residential child care institutions. The program provides nutritionally well-balanced, low-cost or free lunches to children each school day. This program was established under the NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH ACT and was signed in 1946 by President Harry Truman.

The USDA's Schools/Child Nutrition (CN) Commodity Programs help American agricultural producers by providing cash re-imbursements for meals served in schools and also provides nutritious, USDA purchased foods for the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program, and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

Important Note: Many Winston County families are being affected by the economy. If you have lost your job or your wages have been cut, please contact your school about applying for free or reduced price meals for your school age children. Parents may apply for these meals anytime their income changes during the school year. If you know any family whose income has decreased since school began, please tell them to contact their school for an application. For any other information you may call Danny Springer, CNP Director Winston County Schools, at 489-5018.
