Congratulations to Meredith Daniel of Double Springs! Meredith won The "Magic City Invite" at Mountain Brook Saturday, January 28, 2012. She won the Level 9 All-Around with a score of 35.850, won the Bars with a 8.475, won the Beam with a 9.050, placed 2nd on Floor with a 9.175, and placed 3rd on Vault with a 9.150. She will be competing in meets in Chicago, Illinois, Charleston, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia in the coming weeks as well as the Alabama State Meet in Tuscaloosa at the end of March.

Jake Jauch, Addison High School class of 2009, signs a copy of his second book in his Banished Land series. He donated this book, The Turning, to the Addison High School Library. His books are available at abbottpress.com, Barnes and Noble, and Amazon. Addison High will be hosting a book talk and signing in the near future.

Jalen, an eighth grade student at Double Springs Middle School this fall, received the Coaches Award in the SEC Division at the NIKE Elite Basketball Camp (June 25 through July 1) at Homewood Middle School. Way to go Jalen, you represented DSMS very well!

Congratulations to WCHS students Elijah Posey and Tyler Cagle. Elijah placed 2nd in oratory; prepared speech on volunteerism and Tyler placed 2nd in special talent; vocal solo/guitar piece "If You're Readin' This" at the Sr. High Beta Club National Convention in Nashville, TN. June 2011.

Congratulations to WCHS student Bella Martinez for placing 3rd at the National Jr. Beta Convention in the speech competition. She has won first place at the state level three years in a row and has placed all three times she has attended Nationals. This success in speech is one in which very few, if any, has ever accomplished. Also competing at Nationals was Fallon Christian in English and Hayden Hodge in watercolor painting. They both represented WCHS and Double Springs Middle School very well.

Congratulations to Anna Kate West of Winston County High School! Anna Kate was named Winston County's Distinguished Young Woman of 2012 and will receive a $1000 scholarship from the Winston County Arts Council.

Lynn Elementary School-Mrs. Lisa Cagle was named the VFW Teacher of the Year for 2010-2011. She was awarded this for her teaching and promotion of patriotism in her classes. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Addison High School's Sadie Beam for placing 1st in the javelin and Jesse Seales for placing 1st in the high jump at the state track meet.

Congratulations to the Addison High Schools girls track team for finishing 3rd in the state track meet.

Congratulations to Meredith Daniel! She won the long jump Tuesday, May 3rd at the Sectional Track Meet in Winfield. She jumped 16' 2" and three quarters. She also made it to state in the high jump and relay. We are so proud of you. Meredith is an 7th Grade student at DSMS.

Congratulations to Meredith from Double Springs Middle School. Meredith won the Level 9 All-Around Gymnastics State Championship in Huntsville, AL on March 25 with a score of 36.275. She also won the State Title on Bars with a score of 9.250, and won the State Title on Vault with a score of 9.125. She finished 3rd on Beam with an 8.850 and 3rd on Floor with an 9.075. Meredith also qualified to go to Regionals in New Orleans, LA in April.
   We are all very proud of her!

Congratulations to WCHS 9th grade students Isabella Martinez and Fallon Christian for their State Beta Convention wins. Isabella placed first in Speech and Fallon placed second in English. Fallon took a test that consisted of grammar and literature questions and competed with about 60 other people. Isabella competed with about 30 others. We are very proud of them!

Congratulation to Alex Scott of Addison High School for winning the Region Six - Bryant/Jordan Scholar Athlete Award. She will receive $1500- $2,000 in scholarship money along with participating in the State Bryant/Jordan Award banquet on April 11, 2011.

We are proud of you! Winston County has two teachers who have met all requirements to become a National Board Certified Teacher. Congratulations to Marcie Hill, Addison Elementary School, and Dalina Hunter, Addison High School for meeting those standards. Zachary Tidwell, a ninth grader from WCHS, for winning the essay contest (7-9th grade division) ; Macy Green, a sixth grader from DSMS, won 1st place in the poster contest (grades 4-8th division) ; Kya Crooks, a third grader from DSES, won 1st place in the poster contest (grades K-3rd division).
All have been sent to Montgomery to be entered in the state competition.

Congratulation to Addison High student Bethany Beasley for winning the 2010-2011 Huntsville Chapter Christopher Columbus essay contest of which she will receive a first place medal and certificate. Bethany's essay will now be sent to the state level.

Congratulation to Kaitlin Parker of Addison High School for being selected to represent Winston County in the Alabama Jr. Miss Scholarship program. The program awards college scholarships to young women who have distinguished themselves at school and in their communities.

Congratulation to the Meek High School Cheerleaders for being the 2010 AHSAA State Champions! Over 1,200 cheerleaders from 71 teams participated in the 14th annual event administered by the Universal Cheerleaders Association on November 20, 2010. The squads in the varsity and junior classic competitions went through their routines before over 2,700 fans.
   
The Meek High Cheerleaders
also won 1st place in the North Alabama Regional Cheer Competition on November 6, 2010 where they received an invitation to the National Cheerleading Competition in Orlando, Florida in February 2011.

Congratulation to Alex Scott of Addison High School for being named the state winner of the Wendy's High School Heisman. She will now be Alabama's representative for the national finalist competition.

Congratulations to the Meek Band of Champions for Superior Ratings in the divisions of Band, Colorguard, Percussion and Drum Major. The band received Best In Class in Band and Drum Major. They also received the Challenge Cup for the 2nd year in a row (October 2010).

Addison High's first cross-country team participated at Good Hope Saturday, September 18, 2010. The team members include L to R: Dylan E., Kurtis R., Laura M., Tony B., Coach Randy White, Dustin B., and Jake B. Laura placed 4th out of 70 runners. Congratulations to this team for making history at Addison High School.
