Dear Senior of 2007 and their Parents:
Congratulations upon reaching this milestone in your
lives! The road has been treacherous at times and it is far from finished; but
the reward will certainly be worth the sacrifices made. I look forward to
handing each of you a diploma on May 30, 2007, ten short months from now.
I wanted to take a few minutes to discuss some things
for you to expect in the coming months. I will attempt to outline possible costs
and expectations for the coming months. Understand these are only estimates and
the actual price may vary greatly. I will divide the information into months.
AUGUST
 | If
you have failed a course that will not be able to be worked into your
schedule this year, you MUST do a correspondence in order to graduate in
May. Start on that now –
don’t’ wait until the last minute.
See Mrs. Martinez for information. |
OCTOBER
NOVEMBER
 | Graduation
invitation packets will arrive in early November. The orders will be taken
about a week later. The price varies with the order - between $100-$500. A
$50 deposit is all that is required on order day, but you may pay in full on
that day if you wish. If
you do not order anything else order the CAP & GOWN/ DIPLOMA. This
cost $39.00 plus handling charges at this time and goes up roughly $10.00
per month after January. If you fail
to graduate from WCHS for any reason the cap & gown may be returned for
a complete refund. This is one of the few required items so buy it now.
Each year the shade of purple changes and therefore we ask each person to
buy a new one and not borrow from someone who graduated earlier. The reason
is that it will contrast GREATLY
in the group picture and stands out when you are seated at graduation. So
please order now.

required to dress in a particular way as to keep the ceremony special for
all involved. In giving you this notice of the expected dress, I would
ask all to follow the below described instructions. If you have
problems finding the correct clothing, please contact me by May 1, 2008. I
will make every attempt to arrange for clothing, in an anonymous manner of
course. Please let me know as soon as possible if the clothing is a problem
so I will have time to find appropriate clothes to loan. |
Guys – Khaki pants, white
button down collar shirt, dark tie, black shoes, no flip-flops
Girls – White dress,
white shoes, no flip-flops. Ladies
are encouraged not to wear spiked heals because of their tendency to sink into
the dirt which could cause you to trip.
College Days – Each senior will be excused
up to 2 days during this school year to visit colleges. You must provide proof that you actually visited the campus.
In October, BSCC will have a Career Workshop date as well.
UAH has an Engineering and Cooperative Education Day on September 21st.
Mrs. Watkins is setting up a page on her website that
will be used to keep you informed of any Senior News and deadlines.
You will access this site by going to the WCHS website and clicking on
Classrooms, then click on Mrs. Watkins’ name.
Parents and students, your Senior year is certainly a
special time for you, your family and your teachers. The above mentioned dress
is to enable the Class of 2008 to leave Winston County High School with a
positive and classy impression on their friends, family and community. I want
each of you to know how humbled and honored I am to have been a part of your
lives. Thanks to you, I truly have the greatest job in the world. These are some
of the things you can expect in the coming months. I hope you find this
information helpful, and if you have any questions please feel free to call me.
Sincerely,
Jeff Cole
