Career & Technical Education is a vital part of the educational process in Winston County Schools. Well over 1,000 students are enrolled annually in programs that are identified as Career & Technical Education programs. Whether students are enrolled at the Winston Career Academy, or in an "in-house" program at their local school, Career & Technical Education courses have much to offer. Currently, we offer educational programs in Agriscience, Family & Consumer Science, Automotive Technology, Business/Marketing Education, Cosmetology/Barbering, Electrical Technology, Health Science, and Welding Technology.
We truly believe that we have much to offer the students of Winston County. It seems that now, more than ever, employers are seeking qualified individuals with the credentials needed to fill the employment needs of their businesses and organizations. I am proud to inform you that all Career & Technical Education programs can help your student begin their path of achieving the credentials and standards that current industry leaders desire. Each of our programs offer a specific career path with one or more industry recognized credentials, as identified by the Alabama Department of Education.
In addition, many of our programs are categorized in the high wage/high demand sector for jobs in the state of Alabama. Along with our individual program offerings, students of the center may qualify to participate in dual-enrollment classes, which are offered at the local community colleges at night and during the summer. These courses are provided on a scholarship basis to qualified students in grades 11 and 12. I want to assure you that we place great emphasis on making sure that each student is carefully placed in a Career & Technical Education program based on results from interest surveys and their individual career objective. This process provides students the opportunity to achieve their full potential while enrolled in school.
I want to encourage you to join us as we strive to move each student forward and upward. Our instructors, counselor, career coach, and staff want to play a vital role in helping each student fulfill their individual goals and abilities. In conclusion, I ask that you reference the website for the Winston Career Academy and the CT programs offered in our local schools and discuss with your student the many opportunities that exist in Career and Technical Education. If you have any questions, please contact us so we can be of further assistance. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you and to the many success stories we will be able to reflect upon for years to come!
